The Lady with the dog

“The Lady with the dog”

6 collages each 30×30 cm,

textile collage 2021

Once upon a time, when the lockdown in one country was extremely strict, it was only possible to go out with a dog at night. One woman went out with her husband on a leash and said to the police that he is her dog. The couple got a fine of 1,546 Canadian dollars each. I was inspired by this story and made a series of six textile collages “The lady with the dog”. There is a female figure dressed like a lady and an almost naked male figure on each collage. The male figure has a mask of a dog. The poses and clothes of this person point to a pet-play fetish, known as a practice accepted in special clubs and private spaces. The ladies, however, are dressed as was necessary for a woman in public in different time periods. There are dresses from the 18th century to the present day. By mixing different dress codes in one collage, I am questioning the possibility of an intersection of private and public spheres. Like many of my other works, this is about male and female roles in society, about freedom and restrictions and the possibilities of their transgression in a playful frame”
